The village of Waisomo in Tavuki, Kadavu has prohibited people from visiting other nearby villagers or welcoming visitors in their village to safeguard their members from the deadly COVID-19 virus.

Villager, Merelita Waqatabu says the village headman and nurse are leading the charge in their COVID-19 campaign as they are the ones who are at the entry point conducting checks and ensuring that villagers adhere to the restrictions.

She says they were surprised to know as to how the virus has reached Kadavu and how quickly it has spread.

She adds children are always kept inside their homes to prevent them from contracting the virus and mixing with other households have been prohibited.

The Waisomo villager says most of the villagers above the age of 18 have received their first dose and they are waiting for their second jab of the COVID vaccine.

Waqatabu is reminding Fijians that if people move about without restrictions, they will be spreading this virus and it will be a struggle to contain the virus from spreading.
