Jiuta Wainiqolo now dubbed the Fijian Ferrari has made a statement in the French Top 14 rugby competition after scoring his first try for Lyon, helping his side secure a hard-fought 25-18 victory over Montauban.
Wainiqolo delivered an electric performance, lighting up the field with his trademark explosive line breaks and pace throughout the match.
His try came from a stunning solo effort where he outran his marker, evaded four defenders, and dived over the corner to mark his arrival in style.
Former Swire Shipping Fijian Drua centre Iosefo Masi also had a strong showing, combining well with Wainiqolo in the midfield and adding a try of his own to Lyon’s tally.
Montauban featured former Fiji 7s star Josua Vici, but the Fijian Ferrari proved to be the standout, outclassing his compatriot and helping Lyon maintain their place at the top of the table.
With Wainiqolo finding his rhythm fans can expect more fireworks from the flying Fijian in the weeks ahead.
