Concerns have been raised on the quality of work being carried out on the recently repaired Karsanji Street, Ratu Sukuna Road and Milverton Road in Suva.

When questioned in a public consultation forum, the Fiji Roads Authority has said the contractors will do further repair works at their own cost.

This comes as Wainibuku resident, Ifraz Ali raised concerns during a community meeting in Wainibuku about repair works beginning at Naivorovoro Road which is just past Rups Mega Complex in Nakasi, and what their standards are as some roads that were repaired in Suva only about a month ago are once again in a bad condition.

FRA Works Manager, Anesh Sharan says the contractors of Karsanji Street, Ratu Sukuna Road and Milverton Road are going to do works on these roads again and it is not going to be charged to FRA due to the poor workmanship by them.

He says engineers and technicians are working around the clock to monitor quality assurance and quality control of Naivorovoro Road so there should not be any issues.

Sharan also adds that they have first built drains beside the road to drain out the water and they will then take the first seal portion out and proper repair works will then be done.

He also highlighted that FRA will look into other roads in the area after works on Naivorovoro Road are completed.

This was one of the roads that has been in a pathetic condition for some time.

It was being said by the FRA that the road comes under the Housing Authority while Housing Authority said they were trying to sort out issues and funds to get FRA to do the road.

Repeated questions were raised by residents on why they are being made to suffer based on the earlier inaction by the FRA and Housing Authority.

Local Government Minister, Premila Kumar has already stated that once the Housing Authority does a sub division and builds the road based on FRA standards, the road should be transferred to the FRA.

The residents are happy that the repair work has finally started.
