The Water Authority of Fiji says its water carting teams have been abused and harassed by members of the public whereby a water carting truck was blocked on the way out of the area in Sakoca, and stones were thrown at the water carting truck in Burebasaga.

These incidents happened last week.

WAF says it has received reports that some members of the public have verbally abused and threatened their truck drivers and tallyman staff as they were providing water carting relief to metred areas.

It says fortunately, no one was injured during this ordeal.

The Authority says water carting drivers and tallyman staff are only doing their job and should be able to work without fear of harm.

WAF says just like everyone else, their employees have families and loved ones who expect them to return home safely.

It is urging people to refrain from such acts as intimidating water carting teams will only negatively impact their water relief efforts to communities who are in need.

WAF adds those who continue to intimidate their water carting teams will be reported to police for further action.

The Authority further says customers can call on 3346777 or the shortcode 5777 to share their issues with them and can get assistance, rather than taking out their frustration on their innocent staff.
