Violence and harassment at work places has persisted for years - Lesuma

Violence and harassment at work places has persisted for years - Lesuma

17/02/2021

The Acting Permanent Secretary for Employment Manasa Lesuma says violence and harassment which includes unethical behaviours in workplaces has persisted for a number of years now.

While speaking at the International Labour Organization Validation Workshop of C190: Violence and Harassment in the World of Work this morning, Lesuma says this may have been due to our silence and lack of proper practical mechanisms.

He says violence and harassment is unacceptable anywhere and anytime.

Lesuma adds the risk of violence and harassment is even higher during times of crisis and we must all work collectively to address the issue in the work environment.

ILO Director for Pacific Island Countries Matin Karimli says the ratification of C190 by Fiji sends a strong message to other countries about the importance of building a world of work which is free of harassment.
