Victims of motor vehicle accidents now have a commission funded by government

Victims of motor vehicle accidents now have a commission funded by the government to address their compensation claims.

The new Fiji Accident Compensation Commission will be established as an independent commission to administer a no-fault compensation scheme for all motor vehicle accidents.

The scheme will provide victims of motor vehicle accidents with the option of either receiving compensation or pursuing their claim through legal proceedings.

This no-fault scheme will replace current third party insurance scheme.

Motor vehicle owners will no longer have to pay Third Party Insurance to insurance companies as the fee has to be paid to the Land Transport Authority.

The budget to set up the commission in 2017-2018 includes an operating grant of $1 million.
