Vilikesa Bari, the young man who was allegedly assaulted by a police officer in Nausori over the weekend, will be transferred to the CWM Hospital later today for surgery due to complications to his jaw.

He is currently admitted at the Wainibokasi Hospital.

The police officer is currently under investigation for the assault.

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew has directed the Director Internal Affairs to look into the assault claims made against the officer, assuring the family and members of the public of a thorough investigation.

A post on social media claims the man, who was allegedly assaulted had reported to the police officer that his brother had been punched.

It is alleged that instead of helping the man out, the officer put him in the vehicle and hit him on the head then continued to beat him at the station.

Chew says officers are constantly reminded to uphold the rule of law in the execution of their duties as they are all equally answerable to the law.
