The Founder of FRIEND Fiji Sashi Kiran says the current political environment is very different as it is not about ethnic groups but about the government maintaining its status quo and not liking any dissident voices.

She made the comments while speaking during the Indo-Carribean Cultural Centre Zoom Public Meeting.

The topic of the discussion was Fiji's history of indentureship, military coups and attitude towards Indo Fijians.

Kiran told the meeting that its not necessarily about the different ethnic groups anymore and more about the government protecting what they have.

She also says that there are good relations and inter marriages on the ground but there has been very limited dialogue at the national level about reconciliation or healing the pain from the 1987 coup and beyond.
