The Verma family is facing a series of death threats after posting a viral video online involving a 62-year-old security officer last Saturday, and they have reported the threats and provided evidence to the Samabula Police Station.

It is alleged that the 62 year old was involved in an accident with 20-year-old Bhavik, who allegedly recorded the man confessing to the incident and later posted it online.

The video quickly gained attention, leading members of the public to sympathize with the man and raise FJ$3,300 to assist with his damages, a sum confirmed by the 62 year old man’s wife this morning.

Bhavik says he uploaded the video after the security officer reportedly left the scene, but the response has taken a dark turn.

He says his parents, are now receiving violent threats online and in-person from individuals threatening to harm them and burn down their house.

Speaking to fijivillage News, the security officer says he has already paid the required damages and holds no ill feelings towards anyone involved.

He says he has chosen to forgive and forget and has moved on from the incident.

He urges the public to stop making threats, emphasizing that such actions will only create racial tension.

He calls for unity, saying, we need to live together peacefully and not promote any discrimination.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu confirms that police have reached out to both parties and investigations are ongoing.
