Usage and cultivation of marijuana and indecent assault is one of the major challenges youths in Vanuabalavu are facing.

This was highlighted by Mavana villager, Ilisoni Vuli, who says that the matters are with Police.

He says to combat these challenges, they have provided programs for youths in every village on the island, so they can utilise their time and advice is also given to the youths.

Vuli also highlighted that indecent assault is another issue faced by youths because they spend most of their time drinking grog and no proper planning on their daily activities.

He further says the church has stepped in to provide advice, counselling and awareness to the youths on these two issues.
