Usamate says GCC sitting in May was illegal while Turaga says he will address it in his ministerial statement
Opposition MP Jone Usamate and Attorney General Siromi Turaga

Opposition MP Jone Usamate has claimed in Parliament that the Attorney General Siromi Turaga is giving wrong advice to the government and the Great Council of Chiefs meeting that was held in May was illegal, while Turaga says he will respond to these claims during his ministerial statement later this week.

While responding to the ministerial statement by the Minister for i-Taukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu, Usamate quoted a report on October 26th, where Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says there will be an amendment to the i-Taukei Affairs Act to provide for the re-establishment of the GCC.

The FijiFirst MP asks if the meeting in Bau was held in May and what legislation made that meeting legitimate.

Usamate says if Rabuka is now talking about it in October, that means everything that was done before is all illegal.

While responding to questions from fijivillage News, Attorney General, Siromi Turaga says he will address the issues in his ministerial statement.
