Following the reinstatement of Government MP, Jese Saukuru as the Minister for Youth and Sports after a swearing-in ceremony at State House today, Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed to fijivillage News that Saukuru is back in Cabinet as he finds the issue can be administratively resolved after completion of his investigation.
Rabuka had dismissed Saukuru from the Minister for Youth and Sports position in March this year in light of earlier allegations of abuse of office relating to the Fiji Sports Council.
The decision followed issues relating to alleged conflict of interest and decisions being made without the Sports Council Board's approval.
A whistleblower who is a former staff member of the Fiji Sports Council had said earlier this year that many decisions made were not approved by the Board which included business class travel under the Sports Council contra deal with Fiji Airways for Saukuru and his wife's travel without the Sports Council's Board approval.
While responding to our questions today, Prime Minister Rabuka says the business trip of Saukuru's wife was not by Saukuru's authority and it will be resolved by surcharge action.
Rabuka says Saukuru will not be surcharged but whoever authorised it will answer to him.
When asked on the Fiji Sports Council investigation into suspended CEO, Gilbert Vakalalabure, Rabuka says that is still under process and the report is with the Sports Council.Â
The Prime Minister says the Fiji Sports Council Board will deal with it according to their Operating Procedures.
Stay with us for developments.
