An urgent call has been made for climate-resilient and disaster-resilient health facilities across Fiji to support surgical outreach and patient care. This was highlighted during the ECO Care Equity in the Asia-Pacific Conference at University of Fiji today.

During the conference, Surgical Registrar at CWM, Dr. Ashneel Sundar emphasizes the need to upgrade operating infrastructure in Sub-Divisional Hospitals and Divisional Hospitals to meet the growing demand for specialized health services under changing climate conditions.

He says key facilities in certain locations need immediate upgrades to better support surgical teams and outreach services.

Sundar also highlights the need to strengthen medical supply chains, especially for essential services like blood transfusions and diagnostic equipment.

He emphasizes the need to strengthen the workforce through local and overseas training, and to increase student opportunities.

He adds that these upgrades are vital to expand surgical services and improve patient outcomes across the country.

Questions have been sent to Ministry of Health.
