In a key step to build industry ties, support staff development, help graduates find jobs, and boost Nadi’s economic growth, the University of Fiji has joined the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry as a corporate member.

This is an important step in the University’s commitment to working with industry.

University of Fiji’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Shaista Shameem says the University was invited to join the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry by its President, Dr Ram Raju, and other executives soon after it signed an MOU with Pacific Specialist Healthcare.

She says the University was happy to accept the offer because the new partnership with the Nadi Chamber of Commerce will help build stronger ties with the business community through activities like guest lectures, industry forums, training workshops, and research projects.

Professor Shameem says the University of Fiji wants to connect education with business to keep its courses and programs useful and to help the region’s economy grow.

She says this helps the University work closely with businesses so that its graduates are ready for work and meet the needs of employers looking for skilled and knowledgeable leaders.

The Vice-Chancellor also says the University can produce such leaders because it offers high-quality qualifications in Business, Economics, and Management, including its well-known MBA program.

She adds that by joining the Nadi Chamber of Commerce, the University will gain more visibility and trust through the Chamber’s media, communication, and events.

Professor Shameem also notes that the University looks forward to hosting and helping organize events with the NCCI, including planned seminars on entrepreneurship, business law, climate resilience, and financial literacy.
