The Registrar of Political Parties has lifted the suspension of the Freedom Alliance Party as they have provided the Fijian Elections Office with their audited accounts following their suspension this morning.

Registrar of Political Parties, Mohammed Saneem says Unity Fiji and HOPE remain suspended.

He says they have acknowledged their letter.

Saneem adds it is imperative that political party executives take these things seriously and ensure that the deadlines are met.

Under the Political Parties Act, all parties are required to submit audited accounts to the Registrar within three months of the end of the financial year.

The last date for the submission of these accounts was 31st March 2021.

Considering the gravity of the breach, Saneem has found it fit to suspend the parties to protect the public interest.

All parties have been notified that they must remedy the breach within 60 days failing which they may face deregistration.

Saneem adds in the interim period of suspension, the parties cannot hold themselves out as a political party.
