A 30-year-old man who raped his 11-year-old niece in a settlement in Ba in 2008 will spend 15 years, 9 months and 16 days in jail.

The man is now 42 years old while the victim is 23.

The man is the girl’s paternal uncle and was convicted for a count each of rape and attempted rape.

In 2008, the girl was a class 6 student and both were living in the same house.

The court was told the man first raped the girl on 16th July, 2008 when she came back from school and her grandmother and sisters were in the farm.

He had threatened the girl that he would assault her if she shouted.

The man then attempted to rape her the next day.

In mitigation, the man had told the court that he is married and is a sickly person with a kidney problem.

Justice Sunil Sharma also highlighted that after numerous adjournments for one reason or the other, the matter finally went to trial in 2019.
