USP has zero tolerance on illicit drugs

University of the South Pacific’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Regional Campuses, Estates and Infrastructure, Dr Giulio Paunga says any student involved in the possession, sale or use of illicit drugs will face disciplinary action, be expelled from the university and the matter will be referred to Police.

This follows reports of some students selling drugs within the university campus area.

Paunga says the Campus Security and other sections of USP has been running awareness campaigns to alert the students to be vigilant and to report any such instances.

He says they have a system in place and they are working together with students and staff in emphasizing the importance of reporting anyone selling or in possession of illicit drugs and any reported case or speculation on dealing with drugs will be reported to the Police immediately.

The Deputy Chancellor says any student staying in the halls being in possession, sale or use of drugs, will be investigated and it will become a Police matter.

He adds the Director of Commercial may exercise his power under the Ordinance to discipline any student who is in the possession of illicit drugs and will remove the student from the Halls of Residence immediately.
