Over 30,000 students enrolled at the University of the South Pacific in 2017 and now in it’s 50th year, USP is expected to have a much higher enrolment this year.
This was highlighted by the President and Chancellor of USP, Jioji Konrote while launching the year‑long celebrations of the University's 50th Anniversary at its Laucala Campus.
Konrote also highlighted that the 5th of February marks the first ever class to be conducted at the University 50 years ago, adding that from then till today, over 50,000 graduates have been educated at USP.
He says that 50th anniversary seeks to recognize the achievements of the University and the contribution of the institution to its’ alumni and communities and the Pacific.
The President also revealed that USP will soon be able to perform even better with the upgrade of the USP NET with the support of the New Zealand government and the launching of the New Strategic Plan for the University at the end of this year.
Meanwhile, also present at the launch was the Australian High Commissioner, John Feakes who joined the President in overseeing the recovery of the time capsule that kick-starts the long year celebration of USP’s 50th anniversary.
The Time Capsule was sealed by the then Australian Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer and USP Vice‑Chancellor, Professor Rajesh Chandra to mark the commencement of construction of the Australia‑Pacific Lecture Theatre in 1997.
