As the University of the South Pacific’s Open Day sponsored by KPMG commences tomorrow, Shweta Devi Chand is encouraging high school students and the public to make the most of the opportunity.
The 29-year-old says the welcoming environment at the School of Pacific Arts, Communications and Education, along with the Early Childhood Education and Care booth, positively influenced her decision to follow her passion.
Devi, originally from Korovou in Tailevu currently pursuing a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care after graduating with a Certificate III in the same field last year, says she has always felt a strong connection with children and believes the early years of a child’s life lay the foundation for lifelong learning, behaviour, and health.
She recalls attending the USP Open Day in 2013 as a Year 12 student of Tailevu North College, being impressed by the supportive learning environment, friendly teaching staff, and facilities.
Devi shares that another highlight of the Open Day was attending a career advice session where USP students and lecturers discussed their experiences, course structures, and job prospects, which built her confidence in her career choice.
She says she is grateful for the supportive lecturers at USP, who have helped her acquire skills to create inclusive, nurturing, and stimulating environments for young children.
She encourages students attending this year’s USP KPMG Open Day to explore as many booths as possible, ask questions, and keep an open mind, as the experience could inspire their future careers.
The KPMG USP 2025 Open Day will be held across the Laucala, Lautoka, and Labasa campuses tomorrow.
