Two people to front Suva Magistrates Court for Butt Street aggravated robbery

Two people to front Suva Magistrates Court for Butt Street aggravated robbery

Two people will appear in the Suva Magistrates Court today after being charged in relation to an aggravated robbery incident on Butt Street, Suva.

The incident was captured on dashcam video and was widely circulated on social media.

Police say the incident occurred on the night of June 15th, 2025 and with the help of social media users and CCTV footage provided by local businesses, the victim was successfully identified.

They say the official report was lodged on the 20th of June.

Police say from the information gathered, the Totogo Crime officers arrested a 22-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, and both are jointly charged with one count of aggravated robbery.

Police Commissioner, Rusiate Tudravu had confirmed to fijivillage News on the 19th June 2025 that he had directed the Operations Team to re-look at the deployment of officers during the weekends after the video emerged of the man getting beaten up by four men along Butt Street in the heart of Suva.

The man is seen getting hit in the middle of the street, and he was assaulted again by the four men when he is on the ground before the four rob him and walk away.

Some people are seen standing on the side of the road while a video seems to have been captured by a vehicle dashcam.

Questions have also been raised on why more Police officers are not on beat patrol around the main nightspots in the country.

Commissioner Tudravu says they have to be aggressive in their approach in enforcing minor offences such as drinking in public places, drunk and disorderly behaviour etc, ensuring red zone areas are properly covered.
