Fire at Kanace Rd in Valelevu this afternoon.

Firefighters have managed to put out the fire that has destroyed two homes at Kanace Road in Valelevu.

According to eye witnesses, the fire started from the house on the bottom of a hill and spread to another house uphill.

They say the fire spread quickly to the other house due to strong wind.

Rajesh Chand Sharma, the owner of one of the houses that were destroyed by the fire, says the NFA could have saved their house because they had called them around mid-day but claims their response was that there was no fire truck available.

He is thankful to the youths of Kanace Road, who came in numbers and used the water from the drain to try and put out the fire.

Sharma says they have been living in that house for more than 18 years, and now, it's no more.

We have sent questions to NFA regarding the concern raised by the home owner. They are yet to respond.
