A 46-year-old farmer and an 85-year-old unemployed man have tragically passed away in two separate accidents.

Police has confirmed that on Thursday evening, the 46-year-old man of Wauosi was travelling in a truck driven by a 47-year-old farmer of the same village.

Police say they were travelling towards Nadi when the truck veered off the road at Nasaucoko Farm Road in Navosa.

They say seven passengers were seated at the back tray when the truck lost control and veered down a slope.

Police also revealed a 33-year-old farmer of Wauosi and an 18-year-old student jumped off the truck as it was on its way down the slope.

Police say they had managed to pull everyone out from the truck, and a passing driver assisted in transporting the injured to Navosa Hospital.

The 46-year-old farmer was pronounced dead on arrival, while two passengers, a 40-year-old and a 21-year-old woman of Wauosi Village, are still admitted at the Sigatoka Hospital while the 47-year-old driver is admitted at Lautoka Aspen Hospital.

Other passengers were treated and sent home. In a separate incident, an 85-year-old unemployed man of Rarawai, Ba, died after the vehicle he was travelling in veered off the road.

Police say the 85-year-old was travelling to Lautoka from Ba with his 58-year-old son driving when the incident occurred yesterday around midday at Teidamu.

They were rushed to Lautoka Hospital by a passing taxi and were both kept there under observation.

The 85-year-old man passed away early this morning.

Police say investigation into both incidents is underway.
