FIJI Water Flying Fijians Head Coach Mick Byrne says winger Josua Tuisova brings leadership and confidence to the squad as they prepare for their November tour of Europe.
Speaking to fijivillage News after naming his team this morning, Byrne says selecting Tuisova on the wing is a major boost, with the powerhouse backline player known for disrupting the opposition’s game plans.
Byrne says he is the type of player that keeps the defence guessing, and the teams know they can’t let him run free.
He says Tuisova demands two or three tacklers and that alone lifts the intensity of any match.
Byrne says Tuisova not only brings physicality but also has a strong influence off the field. He says he creates a positive environment around his teammates and that energy and leadership are exactly what they need.
Bryne also reflected on his coaching journey, saying leading the Flying Fijians has shown him that being national coach is a people-first job one that goes beyond tactics and training.
Byrne has named a solid team with a mixture of youth and experienced players donning the white jersey for this tour.
Byrne says the selection was tough but the players were chosen on form and availability. Haereiti Hetet, Mesake Doge, Eroni Mawi, Samuela Tawake, Tim Hoyt, Tevita Ikanivere, Zuriel Togiatama and Kavaia Tagivetaua are in the forwards.
Isoa Nasilasila, Mesake Vocevoce, Temo Mayanavanua, Setareki Turagacoke, Lekima Tagitagivalu, Elia Canakaivata, Viliame Mata, Motikiai Murray and Pita Gus Sowakula make the loose forwards.
Simione Kuruvoli and Philip Baselala together with Sam Wye make up the scrumhalf position.
Caleb Muntz, Isaiah Armstrong Ravula, Josua Tuisova, Vilimoni Botitu, Sireli Maqala, Kalaveti Ravouvou, Jiuta Wainiqolo, Selesitino Ravutaumada, Ponipate Loganimasi, Salesi Rayawa, and Iosefo Masi make up the remaining backs. Fiji will play England in the first match on Sunday November 9th at Allianz Stadium in London at 5.40am.
