Tourism is the saviour and the way forward in 2023.

This was highlighted by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka at the Tourism Fiji office in Nadi, where he was welcomed by the Tourism Fiji team and board.

Gavoka says it is no secret the country will be looking to the tourism sector.

He also emphasised the critical role of tourism in rebuilding and growing Fiji’s economy following the global pandemic and thanked them for all that has been accomplished through the last few challenging years.

Tourism Fiji’s Executive Head of Regions, Robert Thompson, says the team was thrilled to have the Minister back in tourism with his vast experience and looks forward to many talanoa opportunities.

He also says the merging of the tourism and civil aviation ministries would create a powerful foundation for Tourism Fiji to continue promoting destination Fiji in coordinated and impactful ways globally.

Gavoka also met with Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill and Chair Andre Viljoen to discuss arrival statistics over the last year, Tourism Fiji’s corporate plan, organisational structure and upcoming marketing initiatives.

Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill says they are pleased to have such firm reassurance from the Minister about the continuing support they can expect from the government for tourism.

He says they are absolutely committed to making Fiji the ultimate destination while ensuring the industry remains an employer of choice, attracting and retaining the best talent.

Hill adds they are confident that with the support of the new Ministers, they will be able to achieve this.
