Following the theft of Fiji Year 12 Exam papers from a school in Sigatoka, the Ministry of Education has revealed that it is reinforcing its exam security protocols, including a shift towards digital tracking tools and tighter oversight.
Permanent Secretary for Education, Pene Aropio confirms that the Ministry already has a secure system for e-copy exam distribution and is working on expanding it further.
He further emphasises that the system is secure, allowing only the head of school to log in and access the examination papers.
He adds that this system has already been used for e-copies of the Year 8 examinations.
He states that the Ministry is now moving into the area of using digital tracking tools to ensure there is no tampering, and that stronger quality assurance procedures will be applied.
In light of the breach, Aropio gave assurances to parents and students across Fiji that the national exams will continue as planned, and existing protocols will be enforced more rigorously.
The Ministry also confirms that disciplinary actions may be taken depending on the outcome of the ongoing police investigation into the theft of the Fiji Year 12 examination papers.
