Tougher enforcement of COVID safe measures at the borders has been reiterated by the Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho after a TikTok video emerged of two sisters celebrating their birthday with a group of people and in Police presence at the Logani border in Tailevu.

People are seriously concerned about the cake cutting birthday celebration at the border as COVID-19 protocols do not allow this sort of gatherings.

Commissioner Qiliho has stressed on their newly implemented policing concept where he has said that Police need to be tougher, smarter and friendly.

Noting the challenging and difficult situation everyone has gone through during the pandemic, Qiliho has reminded officers not to let their emotions cloud their judgement in the enforcement of COVID-safe measures.

Qiliho says officers at the border and throughout have been reminded of this during their weekly briefs.

He stresses that they need to be tough in the enforcement, smarter in the deployment and use of resources and friendly in serving with the heart of empathy.

Qiliho says that if they allow such practices to continue at the borders, they are not assisting with the Ministry of Health's efforts and he has reminded officers of this.

The Police Commissioner has directed that the processes and procedures that were being followed with regards to operations at the border be strictly monitored for example funerals and other exchanges that are facilitated by Police and any failure to do so will be dealt with.
