Varinava Tiko has resigned as the Acting Party Leader of the New Generation Party to take up a position at Prime Health Enterprises.

Tiko says he resigned two weeks ago.

He says as Director Operations for Prime Health Enterprises (South Pacific), he is obligated to pursuing the establishment of a tertiary hospital project to bring into Fiji and the Pacific an internationally accredited world-class tertiary hospital.

Tiko says it has always been his intention to safeguard the iTaukei from losing out on great opportunities that empower their future generation and fulfilling their participation in economic growth mandated In Chapter 32 of the 2013 Constitution.

He says to this regard, he is taking this proactive approach towards achieving what is best for all Fijians, that is by working together with this coalition government, bring to the Pacific internationally accredited tertiary healthcare systems and doctors with right credentials and track record.

The party has been suspended for 30 days with immediate effect for contravening Section 26(2) of the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding & Disclosures) Act.

Acting Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa says Section 26(2) of the Act requires all parties to provide to the Registrar, within 3 months after the end of each financial year, the record of accounts of its income, expenditure, assets and liabilities audited by an auditor certified by the Fiji Institute of Accountants.

Mataiciwa says the parties have 60 days to remedy the breach/contravention or face deregistration as a political party.

When contacted, Tiko referred all questions to the Party’s General Secretary Isireli Dausiga.

We have sent questions to Dausiga. He is yet to respond.
