Thousands of people living in parts of Sigatoka have been without water supply for seven days and are calling for consistent water carting to affected areas.

Last Sunday at 9.41am, the Water Authority of Fiji told people in Sigatoka in a Facebook post that there would be disruptions due to low production levels.

Residents have told us they have been without water since last Saturday.

Many of the residents we have spoken to live in elevated areas in Sigatoka.

They have been experiencing low water pressure to no water supply.

Other residents say they are lucky they have boreholes.

The Water Authority of Fiji is saying that people living in elevated areas of Sigatoka especially Olosara, Korotogo, Malevu, Lawaqa, Rakirakilevu, Tulalevu, Kulukulu and Malaqereqere, Naroro Village, Volivoli Village, Voua Village, Nadroumai, Uluisila, Cuvu and Naidovu should still expect disruptions.

According to WAF Chief Operations Officer Seru Soderberg, 50% of areas in Sigatoka are still without water supply after widespread flooding.

He says 17 trucks are carting water in Sigatoka.

Soderberg says on the ground teams are still clearing debris as part of the restoration works.

Minister for Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu has visited parts of Sigatoka and says the Water Authority of Fiji has given them a timeline.

He says the water situation in Sigatoka is a major concern.

The majority of the people living in other parts of the Western Division now have water supply.

Call 5777 if you want a water carting truck to come to your area.
