Thousands in the central division affected by water disruptions

Thousands of people are now affected by water disruptions as the Water Authority of Fiji says those living in the elevated parts of Samabula, Rewa Street, Delainavesi to Togalevu, as well as elevated areas of Nasinu and surrounding areas may experience intermittent supply of water at times from this afternoon.

The temporary interruption in water supply is due to a series of unplanned electricity outages today which had disrupted water supply operations to the Waimanu, Savura and Waila Raw Water Pump Stations and blockage of their intakes due to floodwaters which had affected and reduced the production rate of treated water at the Tamavua and Waila Water Treatment Plants.

Electricity supply is yet to be nomalised to the raw water pump stations, WAF Engineers and Technical Teams are working to maintain operations at the pumping stations and treatment plants to sustain water levels in service reservoirs.

The areas affected are Delainavesi to Togalevu Naval Base, elevated areas in Samabula (Votua Street, Moala Street, Lakeba Street, Lovoni Street) Nailuva Road, Rewa Street, Ratu Sukuna Road, Howell Road, Fulaga Street, Lakeba Street, Bureta Street, Ki Street, Wailoku, Sese Street, Kikau Street, Kula Street, Shalimar Street, Moti Street, Raiwasa, Lagilagi Housing, Kula Street, Waiqanake, Nabaka, Muaivuso, Namakala Nasinu Areas, Yasiyasi Road, Duvula, parts of Nawanawa Road, Caqiri Road, Tax Free Zone, Valelevu, Nasinu Road, Nasole, parts of Kinoya and Delainamasi.

The Authority urges customers to conserve and always store sufficient amounts of water to last them for at least two to three days in their homes at all times. They also encourage customers to invest in storage containers or water tanks connected to the water system for storage and backup supply during any unplanned disruption that may arise due to emergency works or natural disasters.
