Minister for Commerce, Trade and Tourism, Faiyaz Koya stated this at Navratri celebrations at Kabutri Drive in Koronivia, Nausori last night.
Koya says Goddess Durga is about our female population, our mothers, sisters and daughters and they are effectively the source of creation.
He told the devotees that we live in a country where we are free to practice any religion and we should be grateful that our constitution allows us to do this.
Hindus in Fiji are celebrating nine days of Navratri from last weekend which is a festival specifically dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga.
The celebrations will finish tomorrow.
