Permanent Secretary for Economy Shiri Gounder

The Ministry of Economy stresses that as per the National Budget announcement, there is one round of the government’s $180 Inflation Mitigation Assistance covering the 6 month period from August 2022 to January 2023.

Permanent Secretary for Economy, Shiri Gounder says this equates to $30 a month or $1 a day.

Gounder has clarified this after LegendFM News received some calls from people wanting to know whether the $180 will now be paid on a monthly basis and when is the next payment due.

Please note no other payment is due after the $180 payment for 6 months.

We also received calls from some people who say that they are separated from their partners and are looking after their children's expenses however the $180 Inflation Mitigation Payment has been made to the partner not looking after the children while their genuine application has been rejected.

We have asked the Ministry if there is a verification process and what happens to genuine people missing out.

Gounder says parents were eligible to apply for students and children below Year 13.

He says either the mother or father could apply.

If there are specific cases of concern, people can contact the Ministry of Economy on 9980311, 9980324, 9927386 and 9927383.
