Fiji Labour Party Leader Mahendra Chaudhry

Fiji Labour Party Leader, Mahendra Chaudhry says the informal meeting last night of the leaders of the People’s Alliance Party, National Federation Party, FLP and the General Secretary of Unity Fiji Party was to explore areas of cooperation between them in the lead up to the general elections.

Chaudhry says even though they are contesting the elections as individual parties because pre-election coalitions are not permissible under the current electoral laws, there is no reason why they should not cooperate to achieve a common purpose.

The meeting was attended by Sitiveni Rabuka, Professor Biman Prasad, Chaudhry and Unity Fiji’s Ratu Mosese Bakaniceva.

It was hosted by businessman Nirmal Singh at his residence in Suva.

Chaudhry says he saw the meeting as an opportunity for party leaders to demonstrate their willingness to cooperate to bring about a change of government.

He says a genuine show of solidarity among them will, in his view, go a long way to motivate the people to be part of that change.
