People’s Alliance Party Leader, Sitiveni Rabuka

People’s Alliance Party Leader, Sitiveni Rabuka says the sudden termination of Sharvada Sharma as Solicitor General without due process of law, which is a constitutional guarantee that protects public servants like Sharma from the abuses of Government and state institutions, is deeply concerning and scandalous.

Rabuka says he fully commends and supports Sharma in refusing to take the termination lying down and is pursuing the appropriate court action.

He says being a former member of the Judicial Services Commission, Sharma is fully conversant with the procedural and advisory requirements that must be carried out in his case.

Rabuka says the handling of this case by state actors raises serious issues of integrity, conflict of interest and judicial independence.

The former Prime Minister says the suspension of Sharma leading to his termination shows a deliberate, crafty and selective application of the law to satisfy political and personal interests.

He says Fiji does not deserve an Attorney General who instead of protecting the rights of public servants and ensuring their access to justice, uses the law to unfairly dismiss and victimize them.

Rabuka says the people have suffered more than enough and adds the Prime Minister and the Attorney General must go.
