Executive Director of Fiji Council of Social Services, Vani Catanasiga.

We really need to reposition or pivot some of our focus around how we are dealing with child protection in Fiji according to the Executive Director of Fiji Council of Social Services, Vani Catanasiga.

She says they have been sharing this at every opportunity with the authorities.

Catanasiga says they have also highlighted through a report that the services that were supposed to be in place for children particularly during and after disasters was not coming together well.

She says they are thankful the council is now part of the National Coordinating Committee on Children where they have begun to share some of their concerns.

Catanasiga adds a concerted effort has to be taken with reports now that some children are scavenging for scrap metal in dump sites while others are selling food near supermarkets to put food on the table for their families.
