Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka says they are committed to a clear focus on the rule of law and democratic processes.

He says laws are made by the government with the people and for the people and as the coalition government they are committed to ripping this nation from the false promises that the people had been beholden to for quite too long.

He says for the first time in nearly two decades, the deliberations of the cabinet are being shared with the public.

Gavoka says even as the members of the parliament they were never given the courtesy to contradict matters that affected the people. The Deputy Prime Minister also stresses that they will no longer pass laws overnight and take away the rights of the indigenous people.

He says they will no longer rob the people of their freedom, or suppress the media.

Gavoka also says they will no longer deny residents the right to choose or who they believe has the best civic interest.

The Deputy Prime Minister adds they will no longer deny employees the right to be part of unions.

He says this is true democracy.

Gavoka says their main focus is on rebuilding and giving the people of Fiji the best infrastructure, health services, medical facilities, and sustainable educational services which are heavily constrained.

He further says the tourism sector contributes 40 percent to the GDP and he is committed to giving tourism and civil aviation the best structure they deserve.

Gavoka says tourism is a sector that supports thousands of livelihoods and the previous government had failed to see the importance of this key factor.

He further says in 2022, visitor arrivals had surpassed expectations reaching 71.1% of 2019 and in December there were highest number of Australians recorded in a single month.

The Deputy Prime Minister says he is also looking at the addition of two new planes which will fly to routes that are in demand.

He says they will soon drop the requirements for vaccinations and insurance to enter Fiji as we have a high rate of vaccination and this gives us the confidence to take the next step.

The Tourism Minister says they will also support and build more smaller and community-based businesses in regards to community-based tourism.
