Methodist Church in Fiji Secretary for Communications Reverend Wilfred Regunamada.

The Methodist Church in Fiji Secretary for Communications Reverend Wilfred Regunamada has now explained why they deleted a Facebook post which was calling on leaders of Hindu religious organisations to liaise with Christian leaders and determine an appropriate time to light fireworks during Diwali on Sunday.

In that now-deleted statement posted on the Methodist Church in Fiji official Facebook page, Reverend Regunamada wrote about a national announcement to all Hindu and iTaukei families to refrain from lighting fireworks until 6pm Sunday after church services finish.

Reverend Regunamada says the post was deleted because it was his own reflection on the on-going debate about Diwali.

He says he posted it on the Methodist Church in Fiji page to enlighten Methodist members to refrain from uncivil and derogatory comments.

Reverend Regunamada says what he was simply proposed was for Religious leaders to dialogue and find common ground to work towards and find a peaceful way to address these Sunday and Diwali issue.

He says some people cried out as if he was demanding that Diwali observers should change their Diwali date.

Reverend Regunamada says his post was calling for more understanding and more consideration from the public as a whole.

He is asking people to stop the curse, racial discrimination and the religious discriminatory comments.
