Kadavu rugby captain Vaione Tegu could not hold back his emotions as he led his team to secure a semi-final spot in the Vodafone Vanua Championship with hopes of making history by qualifying for the 2026 Skipper Cup.
Speaking to fijivillage Sports, Tegu says the team’s unity, discipline and trust in one another has been the key in their successes so far.
The former Suva Grammar School student, has earned the respect of his teammates and Kadavu fans alike, leading by example on the field and maintaining a humble presence off it.
Looking ahead to their semi-final clash, Tegu says Kadavu is focused on sticking to their game plan against a seasoned Taveuni side.
He adds Taveuni is a champion team and they have produced players who have played for Fiji in the Rugby World Cup and Sevens Series. Kadavu will face Taveuni at 3pm next Tuesday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
