Team Fiji added two more gold medals to their tally last night at the Pacific Mini Games in Palau after swimmer, Hansel McCaig clinched gold in the Men’s Freestyle event while the Mixed 200 metres Freestyle Relay team also secured a first-place finish.

McCaig says the win was the result of the team’s collective effort, especially acknowledging the girls who pulled through until the end of the race.

He says that a lot of sacrifice went into the achievement, particularly the early morning training sessions and the determination to push through to the finals.

Vivita Bai, who also celebrated her birthday yesterday, says she was in shock after winning gold in the relay event, calling it a double celebration.

Jonalese Vatubua shared that she was full of joy, noting that it would not have been possible without the support of their team members.

Meanwhile, Tolu Young expressed gratitude saying that without the support from Team Fiji, their families and their coaches, they would not have made it this far.

In other results, Marseileima Moss won silver in the Women’s 1,500 metres Freestyle final, marking her second silver medal, weightlifter Daniel Shaw claimed two bronze medals in the Men’s 79-kilogram category, Kavi Gounder secured third place in the Archery event, Patrick Nadan also claimed bronze in the Double 720 Open Male Compound category, Chaandvi Prasad won two silver medals in the Double 720 Women’s Open Female Recurve and the Individual Female Recurve categories.
