A 30 year old farmer of Nayalayala settlement in Taveuni was swept away after he tried to cross a flooded river.

Minister for Disaster Management Sakiasi Ditoka says he offers his condolences to the man’s grieving family following this unfortunate incident.

He says NDMO also received reports of a rescue mission as a vehicle attempting to cross a flooded road was swept away by strong currents.

Ditoka adds fortunately the victims were assisted by a young woman who was on site.

He has commended the bravery of the woman who risked her life to save the driver and the passengers.

Ditoka says these incidents can be easily avoided.
