We don't want businesses to just squeeze everything out of the consumers, even when the government feels that the reduction in certain duties or taxes should be passed on to the people.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad stated this at the Post Budget press conference saying they have set up a taskforce between the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission, Consumer Council of Fiji, Fiji Revenue and Customs Service and the Ministry of Finance.
Professor Prasad says businesses should justly pass on some of those reductions to the consumers, and in theory, that is what should happen.
