Year 12 student and the 2022 National Women’s Chess Champion Tanvi Prasad will be representing Fiji in the upcoming Oceania Zonal Chess Tournament in Melbourne, from the 23rd to the 28th of this month.

Prasad says she comes from a family of chess players, which includes her father, brothers Rudr Prasad and Yash Prasad.

She says they were fortunate to get online coaching which provided them with insights on the international level of competition.

Prasad represented Fiji in the 2022 World Chess Olympiad, where she attained a provisional Candidate Masters title.

Prasad says being a student, she had to balance her school life with chess as she was having exams, which she had to miss, before flying off to Chennai for the 44th Chess Olympiad.

She says participating in the Chess Olympiad set in motion a cascade of events where she got exposure to international events, got motivated to study chess and further cemented her passion for the game.

It was a momentous achievement for Prasad as she won her inaugural 2022 Vodafone Fiji National Chess Championship in the women’s division.
