Heavy rain causes blockage at Savura intake - WAF

Residents of Tamavua, Sakoca, Tacirua, Colo-i-Suva and Namadi Heights have raised concerns about ongoing water supply disruptions in their area.

They say they experience limited access to water from 5am to 10am everyday and the trend continues this week.

Praveen Chand of Sakoca expressed the difficulties of living with limited water access, saying it's a challenge for them.

The Water Authority of Fiji confirms they are facing water issues for the past few days due to a steady increase in raw water turbidity levels at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant.

They say this is because of the recent heavy rainfall as well as blockages at the Savura intake.

The WAF says the situation is beginning to affect water production and supply disruptions may occur if raw water quality does not improve.

Chand says the people would appreciate if the Authority would provide water carting trucks in the evening as well.

He further says this is because most of them are working people and return home late and have little or no water for their cooking and hygiene purpose.

He adds they have purchased water until Sunday however, this is an additional cost for them.

WAF is yet to comment on when water supply normalise in these areas.
