Tailevu tops prison stats with 163, iTaukei lead with 2,185 inmates

Tailevu continues to record the highest number of inmates in the current prison population, with a total of 163, while the iTaukei still make up the highest number of inmates, totaling 2,185.

Director of Rehabilitation, Education, and Training, Superintendent Isireli Dausiga confirmed this to fijivillage News when asked for an update on the latest inmate statistics.

Dausiga says Ba Province ranks second with 143 inmates, followed by Cakaudrove with 140, Lau with 133, and Lomaiviti in fifth place with 115.

He says that the assessment was conducted yesterday and revealed that out of the total number of inmates, 1,654 are convicted, while the remainder are on remand or under civil detention.
