Exciting news for graduates who want to start their own businesses instead of looking for jobs after graduation, as the government and TSLS have introduced a new $10,000 grant scheme to help them make their dreams come true and turning their ideas into successful businesses.

This was confirmed by Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service CEO Hasmukh Lal after being questioned by fijivillage News on what assistance TSLS gives to students who want to start their businesses instead of working for others after graduation.

Lal says the Graduate Business Startup Scheme, in partnership with the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation is for final semester students or new graduates with strong business ideas.

Lal adds that they will also be mentored and monitored for a year to help ensure their business grows and becomes successful.

He says the goal is to help graduates become job creators, not job seekers, by creating job opportunities for others.

Training for this program will begin on the first of the next month and students are currently undergoing assessments.

He says those who pass will receive the grant and start their training.

Lal says depending on demand, the number of grants could increase from the initial 30 to 50 or even 60.

He says this initiative will help grow the number of small businesses in Fiji, giving graduates the chance to become successful entrepreneurs who will contribute to the country’s economy.
