Due to the disruption of water supply to most areas in the Central Division, all Suva schools that are affected are closed today.

The Ministry of Education is advising all parents and guardians that due to the heavy rain that damaged the water pipes disrupting the water supply to Tamavua, Toorak, Samabula, Nabua, Lami and Delainavesi areas, water supply to schools in these areas will be greatly affected.

Permanent Secretary for Education Selina Kuruleca says the ministry is in consultation with the National Disaster Management Office and the Water Authority of Fiji regarding these issues.

The Ministry says Heads of Schools in the Central Division located in the affected areas are to advise the Suva District Office on the status of their water reserves at 11am and again by 3pm today.

Kuruleca is also liaising with the NDMO and WAF for water to continue to be carted to the affected areas early this morning.

The Ministry adds water trucks began refilling school water tanks last night and will continue to do so throughout the day today, however, for hygiene purposes and to ensure our children's health needs are prioritized, they are advising that students of Suva Schools are to stay home.

The MOE, NDMO and WAF will review this issue this evening on the water levels and have a further update later this evening.

Meanwhile, the Triple N Zone that was scheduled to be held today has been deferred to a later date due to the water situation in Suva.
