Suspended police officer to appear again in Navua Magistrates Court for alleged accident near Navua Bridge

A suspended police officer who allegedly caused an accident on Queens Highway near Navua Bridge on Sunday night will again appear in the Navua Magistrates Court today.

Makario Ulavucu has been charged with a count each of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Police say a three-month-old baby remains admitted at the CWM Hospital after sustaining serious injuries in the accident.

The three-month-old child’s mother and grandparents have been discharged from the hospital.

Police say the four were on their way from Suva to Lautoka when their vehicle was allegedly hit by another vehicle from the back.

According to Police, the suspended police officer who is alleged to have caused this accident was heavily intoxicated.

The case will be called again tomorrow.
