A man who thought he could avoid getting identified on CCTV cameras of a supermarket in Nasinu while allegedly stealing items has been charged and will be produced in the Nasinu Magistrates Court this afternoon.

The man who is in his late 20s has been charged with one count of burglary.

Police say a report was received after 5am Saturday from the supermarket Manager regarding an alleged burglary case which they were viewing live on the CCTV feed.

It says the person was seen moving around inside the shop with an umbrella and allegedly stealing items.

Chief Operations Officer ACP Abdul Khan says a call was made to the Valelevu Police Station whereby officers residing at the barracks and officers on duty were deployed to the supermarket complex.

He says officers surrounded the building where an officer climbed onto the roof of the adjacent building and noticed what was allegedly the suspects entry point into the supermarket.

Khan says the suspect after hearing the officers outside allegedly tried to escape through where he had gained access but was arrested by the officer who was waiting at the same point.
