Strong wind warning for people in Vanua Levu, Taveuni & Lau

Flash flood alert for many areas in Viti Levu & Vanua Levu

If you are living in Vanua Levu, Taveuni, nearby smaller islands and Lau Group, please be prepared for strong winds as a strong wind warning remains in force for your areas while many people living in low lying areas in Viti Levu should also be prepared for flash flooding.

Expect strong winds from today. No significant impacts are expected from winds of these strength (50 kilometres per hour) however it may cause big trees to sway and twigs breaking off trees.

The Nadi Weather Office says a flash flood alert also remains in force for those living in low lying areas and areas adjacent to rivers and streams for Vanua Levu, Serua coastal areas to Togalevu and Ba to Korovou in Viti Levu.

A heavy rain alert remains in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands and the Northern Lau Group.

A trough of low pressure remains slow moving over the Northern parts of the group.

A shallow low pressure system lies to South East of Vanua Levu embedded along the trough.

Tropical disturbance TD04F is still located North of New Caledonia. Another low is located to the East of Vanuatu.

TD04F may merge with the low near Vanuatu and possibly become a tropical cyclone as it moves East to lie between Fiji and Vanuatu later this week.

The weather is expected to worsen from tomorrow
