Attorney General, Siromi Turaga

Attorney General, Siromi Turaga stresses that the stop departure for the former Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem was issued by FICAC, and not him as alleged by Saneem.

Turaga says a complaint was lodged with FICAC 2 days earlier, and the stop departure was then issued.

Saneem has lodged complaints with FICAC against Turaga, Acting Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa and two other staff.

He says the Attorney General does not have the lawful authority to issue any directives to the Fiji Police Force or the Immigration Department to restrain any individual Fijian from travelling out of the country.

Saneem says based on what he was informed by the Immigration officials and the Police at the Nadi International Airport, he believes the Attorney General’s conduct tantamounts to abuse of office.

Saneem also intends to lodge a complaint against the Director of Immigration.

He says the complaints lodged against the Acting Supervisor of Elections and two staff is for allegedly accessing confidential information from the Electoral Commission without lawful authority.

We have sent questions to FICAC.
