State witness testifies Amrit Sen swore at his family and threatened to kill them

State witness, Nitesh Sharma, told the Labasa High Court that murder accused and prominent Labasa lawyer, Amrit Sen, swore at his family and threatened to kill them.

Sen is charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, one count of conspiracy to defeat justice and interfere with witnesses, seven counts of acts intended to cause grievous harm, two counts of criminal intimidation, one count of assault causing actual bodily harm, and one count of damaging property.

Sharma testified that Sen ran over his vehicle on his own man.

He told the court that Sen is his brother-in-law, but the incident of 5th June, 2022 would never be forgotten.

Sharma added that Sen’s alleged abusive actions have negatively affected their relationship.

It is alleged that on 5th June 2022, along the Nasikasika cane access road at Korotari, Labasa, Sen accidentally reversed his vehicle and ran over his passenger, resulting in the death of Jone Rusiate.

Co-accused, Shumendra Chandra, is charged with conspiracy to defeat justice and interfere with witnesses and assault causing actual bodily harm, while Muqtadeer Saif Kaiyum faces one count of conspiracy.

The trial continues in the Labasa High Court.
